Defense Counsel in Hiding...

December 03, 2010 | Lieutenant Colonel Benjamin Grimes

Let me start by reminding you (and myself) how much I really enjoy writing this blog.  I do.  I think it's useful, hopefully interesting, and for me can be cathartic.  But there are limits to what I can write about.  No limits based on the forum - as you know, Army Strong Stories is a place where Soldiers of all stripes can talk, unfiltered, about their Army experience.  Instead, I've got professional limits that prevent me from sharing the details of my cases, and even though I don't work directly on every case in the office, I've gotten a little gun shy about talking about any of the cases we've got going on here.  It can be very frustrating.

Much of the frustration comes from not being able to share the details of why I'm so proud of the officers and paralegals I supervise.  This is one of the best teams I've ever been a part of.  (That adds a little pressure to get my job right!)  I'm going to make an effort, though, over the next few weeks to really figure out where my 'left and right limits' are - how much I can share.  What we do is both interesting legal work and, in many cases, a good story too.

So, I have a goal: before the new year, I'm coming out of hiding, for good.  I want to talk about the Army, the JAG Corps, the law, leadership, and justice.  Who's with me?
